Beginning Saturday, September 24, members of the Canoni Chorale will sing at the Saturday evening vigil Mass at Our Lady of Victory. This group, made up of the top professional choral and solo singers in the New York Area, has sung for musical venues at Lincoln Center, as well as churches and other houses of worship in the New York area. They have performed at concerts at St. Michael's on W. 34th Street when Fr. Murphy was Pastor there. Then soloists of the group sang at St. Agnes on Saturday afternoons for their vigil Masses.
They will sing a choral prelude to the service, as well as an Offertory anthem and Communion motet. They will also lead the congregation in hymns, psalms, Mass ordinaries and responses. The music sung will be chosen with reference to the readings of the day and the liturgical seasons, and be in English, as well as Latin, with an emphasis on the ancient musical masterpieces of the Roman Catholic tradition. Occasionally, instruments besides organ will be added to the mix. All of this will be under the direction of Mr. Donald Barnum. Don is a graduate of Yale University and received his Masters of Music from Juillard School of Music. He sings with the Metropolitan and New York City Operas and has served as President of the Brooklyn Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and is founder of the Canoni Chorale. We look forward to the Chorale joining us and helping us “lift up minds and hearts to God”. Welcome!
The time for Mass on Saturday evening is 5:15 P.M.
