CANDLEMASS, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND …
Note that some of the candles to be used in the Church this year will be blest at the
8:15. 12:15 & 1: 15
Masses on the 2nd.
February 2nd is exactly 40 days after the birth of Jesus Christ and its on this day that Mother Mary along with Joseph brought forth their newborn son, Jesus to the
Tem ple. When Simeon held the baby Jesus he knew that Jesus had come to the salvation of all. Simeon stated that Jesus was “A light to the revelation of the Gentiles and the glory of thy people of Israel.
The light was the inspiration for the celebration with candles. It was and still remains to this day a Christian celebration of the purification of Mother Mary and the first appearance of Jesus in the Temple.
During the early years, people would place their candles outside the church in order to be blessed. They would then carry them in a procession to church in order to imitate the appearance of Jesus in the Temple.
Other Names: In America, February 2nd is known as Groundhog Day.
Other names for February 2nd include
“The Presentation of the Lord in the Temple” and
“Purification of the Blessed Virgin.”
-The above is from Holidays Calendar
… Note that some of the candles to be used in the Church this year will be blest at the 8:15. 12:15 & 1: 15 Mass on the 2nd.

OUR SILVER ANNIVERSARY AT OLVSTA 2022
It was a great celebration commemorating the 75 th Anniversary of the Church of Our Lady of Victory with a Church and a reception that was filled. So much work and effort went into making the anniversary one to remember here at our parish. With wonderful if hot weather, so many came to our Church for Mass and to attend the wonderful reception afterwards at 48 Wall Street Events.
